Rishabh Pant's Composed Response Silences Harry Brook's Sledging Attempt
During the second innings of the Edgbaston Test, Rishabh Pant showcased not only his explosive batting but also his calm demeanor in the face of Harry Brook's attempts at sledging.
As Pant was building his quickfire half-century, Brook tried to unsettle him by asking, "What's your fastest hundred?" The intention was clear: to pressure Pant into playing reckless shots.
Pant, however, remained unfazed. He responded calmly, "In Test cricket, maybe 80–90 minutes," referring to the measured pace of his previous centuries.
Brook, not giving up, brought up his own faster century in the IPL, teasing, "The fastest hundred I've hit was in 55 balls—you could do that today."
Pant refused to take the bait. "It's okay. I'm not too greedy for records. If it happens, it happens," he replied with a smile, effectively shutting down Brook's sledging with quiet confidence.
Pant's composed response was in line with his entertaining and crucial 65 off 58 balls, which included eight fours and three sixes. This knock came after he scored 25 in the first innings.
Currently, Pant has scored 2,023 runs in 28 SENA Tests, averaging 41.28 with six centuries and six fifties in 52 innings. His highest score is an impressive 159*.
In the current series, Pant is the second-highest run-scorer, accumulating 342 runs in four innings at an average of 85.00 and a strike rate of 81.81. He has scored two centuries and a fifty, with a best score of 134.
Pant contributed a stroke-filled 65 off 58 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes. He also formed a valuable 110-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Gill.
Gill complemented Pant's efforts with a remarkable 161 off 162 balls, including 13 fours and eight sixes, following his impressive 269 in the first innings.
Jadeja added an unbeaten 69 (118 balls, five fours and one six), further solidifying India's position with a brisk 175-run partnership for the fifth wicket with the Indian captain.
Earlier in the day, India, resuming at 64 for one, had lost KL Rahul (55) and Karun Nair (26) during the first session.
